Downtown Arena

The Lucas County Arena, scheduled to open in the Fall of 2009, will begin a new era for the downtown Toledo entertainment district. A year-round source of family fun, the new arena will bring many of the nation’s highest quality sporting and entertainment events to the region. Just as importantly, the new arena will be located in close proximity to Fifth Third Field, the SeaGate Convention Centre, The Valentine Theatre, and The Toledo Museum of Art. Over 2 million visitors are expected to visit these attractions annually.

A new not-for-profit corporation, Toledo Arena Sports, Inc., has been established to operate the Toledo Walleye Hockey Club and sign a long-term lease in the new Lucas County Arena. As with the Toledo Mud Hens, net profits from the franchise operations will be dedicated to the mortgage on the Lucas County Arena.

Toledo Arena Sports, Inc. is also seeking other tenants for the Lucas County Arena, including the possibility of Arena 2 Football.

Lucas County has contracted with the worldwide leader in venue management, SMG, to manage the arena. Using its worldwide contacts in the entertainment business, SMG will work to ensure that the arena brings in many of the nation’s top acts, such as:

Sheryl Crow, Green Day, Brooks & Dunn, Sarah McLachlan, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Disney On Ice, Lipizzaner Stallions, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, ArenaCross, Sesame Street Live and many more!
