(Toledo, OH) – The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced today that forward Derek Nesbitt has been recalled to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Nesbitt played 14 games earlier this year with the IceHogs netting one goal with one assist. With the Walleye, Derek has collected 11 goals with 22 assists in 36 games.

 Hello Offense at the Midnight Hour! Toledo exploded with a 7 goal outburst in the midnight game at Charlotte. It was the largest margin of victory for the Walleye this season and the fourth time this year that Toledo has hit the 7 goal plateau.

 A Pearce of Protection Again! Walleye goaltender Jordan Pearce made 33 saves to collect his second shutout of the season Thursday night at Charlotte. For Jordan it was his second shutout in three starts as he had blanked Kalamazoo 3-0 on February 13th.

 Ranking in Five! Forward Evan Rankin collected 5 goals in the game Thursday night at Charlotte, which is an ECHL single game high for this season. Evan became the first Toledo player to score five goals in a game since Mark Deazeley on February 16, 1994 vs. Huntsville. Brad McCaughey has the all-time record for a Toledo ECHL team as he scored six times on November 6, 1991 against Columbus. Six goals are the most in one game in ECHL history.

 Overtime Again! The Walleye did it again in overtime Wednesday night in Cincinnati for the eight win this year by the Walleye in the extra session. The eight wins are a new ECHL high for a Toledo franchise. Chris Robertson collected the game-winning goal at 1:43 of overtime. Defenseman JC Sawyer has collected 3 goals and 3 assists in overtime this year.

 Fantastic! Toledo has seen an ECHL league high 174,390 fans through the doors of the Lucas County Arena this season, which brings Toledo closer to the largest single season number in Toledo hockey history (177,978). Toledo is averaging 6, 013 fans per home contest.

 Lots of Zeros! Toledo has been held scoreless in four of the last seven games after being shutout in back to back games in South Carolina Saturday and Sunday.

 Gametime! The Walleye finish six consecutive games on the road with a game Friday night in Johnstown. The Walleye have taken all five meetings this year with the Chiefs. Toledo has outscored Johnstown 29-15 in the five games. Saturday night, the Walleye are back in the Lucas County Arena for the only visit of the season by the Gwinnett Gladiators. Gwinnett won the first two meetings of the season.

 Promotions! Saturday night is Detroit Red Wings night at the Lucas County Arena presented by the Toledo Blade. The game will be followed by a post game giveaway of Ballreichs Chips!

Here are a few notes before tonight's game in SC as the guys go through a pre-game skate.

Toledo has won 3 of last 4 games. In those games, the Walleye have allowed just 4 goals.

Since defenseman Chris Zarb came to Toledo, the Walleye have allowed a total of 5 goals in 5 games. The previous eight games saw 44 goals go in on the Walleye.

The Walleye would be the 7th seed in the playoffs if they started them today. That would see a first round matchup against Cincinnati.

Evan Rankin has 6 goals and 1 assist since returning from Manitoba.

What a night for the Walleye in Charlotte, or morning however you want to look at it! Toledo collected its biggest win of the year 7-0! Toledo has won back to back games on the road!

Forward Evan Rankin scored five goals and became the first Toledo player to score that many in a game since Mark Deazeley collected that many February 16, 1994 against Huntsville.

Jordan Pearce made 33 saves for his second shutout in the last three games.

(Charlotte, NC) – The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced today that forward Adam Hobson has been reassigned by the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Hobson has appeared in 11 games with the IceHogs this season, scoring two goals with an assist. Adam has collected 44 points (18g, 26a) in 39 games with the Walleye.

Walleye Notes

Stopping a Skid! Toledo ended a season high four game losing streak Saturday night 3-0 over Kalamazoo. It was the second time this year that Toledo has held an opponent scoreless. The previous time was October 24th vs. Trenton (1-0 win).

A Pearce of Protection Again! Walleye goaltender Jordan Pearce made 36 saves to collect his first professional shutout in Saturday’s 3-0 win. In his last three starts, Jordan has made 117 saves.

Fantastic! Toledo welcomed a crowd of 8,200 to the Lucas County Arena Saturday night. It was the eighth sellout of the season for the Walleye and matched the biggest crowd ever (8,200 December 27th). Toledo has seen an ECHL league high 174,390 fans through the doors of the Lucas County Arena this season, which brings Toledo closer to the largest single season number in Toledo hockey history. Toledo is averaging 6, 013 fans per home contest.

It’s been a Long Time Coming! Defenseman Joe Charlebois scored two goals in the game Saturday night against Kalamazoo. The first came in the second period and it was the first goal for Joe since October 17th against Florida. It took him less than a period to score his third goal of the year.

Lots of Zeros! It was a weekend of the zero for the Walleye. Friday night, Toledo lost to Cincinnati 1-0. Toledo rebounded with a 3-0 win Saturday, followed by a 3-0 loss Sunday. Toledo has been held without a goal three times this year.

On the Hook

Gametime! The Walleye hit the road this week for a total of four games. The first is a Wednesday date with the arch-rival Cincinnati Cyclones. Toledo lost 1-0 to Cincinnati last Friday, but has taken five of the first eight meetings this year. Toledo is 11-11-0-0 against the North Division this season.

On Thursday night, Toledo will be Charlotte for an 11:59pm start time. The Walleye and Checkers have split the season series. Over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) the Walleye will make their lone appearance in South Carolina as they meet the defending Kelly Cup Champion Stingrays. South Carolina appeared in Toledo for two games earlier this season. Toledo is 0-1-0-1 against the Stingrays.

Tanguay to Rockford

Tanguay has appeared in 44 games with the Walleye this season and leads Toledo in points (17g, 28a). Maxime has appeared in three contests with the IceHogs this season, collecting one assist.

Walleye Acquire Defenseman Zarb

(TOLEDO, OH) – The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced that the team has traded forward Dominic Osman to the Florida Everblades in exchange for forward Jordan Morrison. In a separate deal, Toledo sends Morrison to the Johnstown Chiefs for defenseman Chris Zarb.

Zarb, the native of Waterford, Michigan, comes to Toledo after playing 36 games this season with the Johnstown Chiefs. Chris scored 8 goals while adding 16 assists with the Chiefs. The defenseman started the 2009 season with the Gwinnett Gladiators, collecting 3 assists. Chris started his professional career with Mississippi last year, and appeared in 4 games with Philadelphia in the American Hockey League. Zarb was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2004 NHL entry draft. He played college hockey with the Ferris State Bulldogs and collected 30 points (2g, 28a) in 79 games there.

Osman appeared in 47 games with the Walleye this year netting 12 goals and 10 assists.

(TOLEDO, OH) – The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced that forward Adam Hobson has been reassigned by the Chicago Blackhawks to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Coach Vitucci also announced today that forward Evan Rankin has been released from his PTO with the Manitoba Moose (AHL) and will return to the Walleye.

Rankin returns to the Walleye after participating in 4 games with Moose (1g, 0a). Evan is still the current leading goal scorer with the Walleye with 20 scored in 41 contests. Evan also has 14 helpers this season with Toledo.

Hobson returns to the IceHogs where he has participated in 8 contests this year (2g, 1a). Adam with Toledo has collected 44 points (18g, 26a) in 38 contests.

The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced that forward Adam Hobson and Defenseman Joe Charlebois have been reassigned to Toledo from Rockford of the American Hockey League. Toledo also released Defenseman Brian Yandle. Both Hobson and Charlebois will play in Charlotte today at 2pm.

Hobson has 44 points (18g, 26a) this season with the Walleye and has collected 2 goals with 1 assist in 8 contests with Rockford, including a goal yesterday at Lake Erie. Charlebois did not collect a point in two contests with Rockford and he has 13 points (1g, 12a) in 42 games with Toledo this year. Yandle appeared in Friday’s game against Gwinnett and did not register a point.

(Gwinnett, GA) – The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced that they have signed defenseman Brian Yandle to a contract. Yandle is expected to play for Toledo tonight in Gwinnett.

Brian has collected 45 points (11g, 34a) in 86 professional games spanning four seasons. The 26 year old appeared in 151 games with the University of New Hampshire prior to starting his professional career. Brian scored 31 goals while adding 68 assists at UNH.

Tonight is the first meeting of season between Toledo and Gwinnett!

The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced that goaltender Alec Richards has been reassigned by the Chicago Blackhawks to Toledo from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. It was also announced today that the Chicago Blackhawks have reassigned forward Adam Hobson to Rockford of the AHL.

Alec returns to the Walleye where he is 13-5-0-3 on the season with a 3.40 goals against average with a .893 save percentage. With the IceHogs this year, Richards is 3-2-0-0 with a 3.12 gaa and a .883 svp.

Hobson returns to the IceHogs where he has participated in 6 contests this year (1g, 1a). Adam is leading Toledo in scoring this year with 44 points (18g, 26a) in 37 contests.

Well we have arrived in Gwinnett. Forward Adam Keefe did make the trip with us, no word yet from Athletic Trainer Brad Frederick on wether he will make his Walleye debut this weekend or not. More likely we will see Adam next weekend in the Lucas County Arena! I will have more updates from the road prior to the games this weekend!

(TOLEDO, OH) – The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced a trio of roster moves as they prepare to travel south for three games this weekend (Friday and Saturday in Gwinnett and Sunday at Charlotte).

Goaltender Alec Richards and defenseman Joe Charlebois have been promoted to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

For the 23-year-old Charlebois, this will be his first trip to Rockford this season after playing in 13 games for the IceHogs last season. The University of New Hampshire product has 1 goal, 12 assists, and 60 penalty minutes in 42 games for the Walleye this year. He is in his 2nd professional season.

Richards (22) will be making his 4th trip to Rockford this season where he is 3-2-0 in six games with a GAA of 3.12. The rookie from Yale has played in 21 games for the Walleye this year (13-5-3, 3.40 GAA). Richards is expected to re-join the Walleye for this weekend’s games in Gwinnett and Charlotte.
Jondo (26) has been released by the club. Jondo was signed last week and played in two games with Toledo and did not register a point.

 The Offense is back! Toledo’s offense kicked back into high gear this past weekend scoring 12 goals in two games. The Walleye are averaging 3.84 goals scored per contest this season which is second in the league behind Elmira (4.00). The 173 goals scored this season are third most behind South Carolina (175) and Elmira (176).

 Overtime Magic! The Walleye did it again in the extra session beating Elmira 5-4 Sunday in overtime. This time it was forward Mike Hedden who ended it. For Toledo it was the 7th time this season that the Walleye won a game in overtime, which is the most overtime wins by a team this season in the ECHL. Toledo has been beaten just once this year in overtime (11/16/09 5-4 at Florida).

 Doing a Trick! Saturday in Johnstown it was Derek Nesbitt’s turn to collect the trio of goals in one game. Derek is the second as the player to have scored three goals in a game for the Walleye (Evan Rankin 1/17/10 vs. Johnstown). Nesbitt also added two assists in Saturday’s game for a five point contest.

 Crazy North Division Antics! Through 45 games this year, the Walleye sit second in the ECHL’s North Division. Cincinnati is first with 55 points, Toledo has 54, and Wheeling and Kalamazoo each have collected 53 to this point.

 Mac Attack! Malcolm MacMillan returned to the Walleye after missing all three games last weekend with an injury. Malcolm picked up 3 helpers in the two games and has collected 2 goals and 12 assists in his past 13 contests. His 135 penalty minutes is the fourth most by a player in the ECHL.

 Fantastic! Toledo has welcomed an ECHL league high 159,894 fans through the doors of the Lucas County Arena this season. Toledo is averaging 5,922 fans per home contest.

 Gametime! Toledo will continue a six game road swing this time down south for the first time this year. Friday and Saturday features back to back games in Gwinnett against the Gladiators. This is the first meetings of the season between these two teams. Toledo is 3-1-0 all-time against Gwinnett in the regular season. Sunday afternoon the Walleye will end the road trip in Charlotte. Toledo defeated the Checkers 6-3 January 10th at the Lucas County Arena in the only meet so far between the two.
