Toledo Walleye Catch Four More! Team Has Now Signed 12 Players!
9/9/2009 - The Toledo Walleye are pleased to announce the next wave of player signings for the inaugural 2009-2010 roster. The Walleye have agreed to terms with Chris Robertson, Milan Maslonka, Ryan Smyth and Brock Wilson (pictured left to right).
Chris Robertson (C)
Birthdate: January 10, 1984 in Owen Sound, Ontario
Robertson has spent the previous five seasons in the Central Hockey League (CHL), including the last three with the New Mexico Scorpions. The 25-year-old has 102 career CHL goals and 166 assists in 304 games, including a career-high 34 goals in each of the previous two seasons. Prior to his CHL career, the Owen Sound, Ontario native played three seasons for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and had 55 points in 143 games.
Walleye Head Coach Nick Vitucci said, “Robertson is a great two-way center with incredible work ethic and will bring energy to every shift. He is an excellent faceoff man and I look forward to him being a leader both on and off the ice.”
Robertson has been invited to the Rockford IceHogs training camp in the American Hockey League.

Milan Maslonka (D)
Birthdate: November 1, 1986 in Zvolen, Slovakia
Maslonka spent the 2008-09 season with the Dayton Bombers and Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, including a brief stint with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL). The 22-year-old Slovakian has also spent parts of two seasons with the Youngstown Steelhounds of the CHL and part of one season with the Elmira Jackets of the United Hockey League (UHL).
“Maslonka is a big, powerful and physical player who can play both forward and defense. He is an incredibly strong skater who will add toughness to our team,” Vitucci said.
Maslonka has been invited to the Rockford IceHogs training camp in the American Hockey League.
Notes: Scored first professional goal vs. Memphis on March 1, 2007…led Youngstown in penalty minutes (298) during the 2007-08 season, ranking 4th in the CHL…made AHL debut on February 13, 2008 vs. Binghamton.
Ryan Smyth (RW)
Position: Right Wing
Birthdate: November 6, 1984 in Ottawa, Ontario
After a record-setting four years with Colgate University, 24-year-old Ryan Smyth has played the last three seasons in the ECHL. Smyth tallied 55 points in his collegiate career and he holds the Colgate record for games played (154). He made his professional debut with the Idaho Steelheads in 2006-2007 before joining the Dayton Bombers from 2007-2009, where he played in 143 games. Smyth enters 2009 after a breakout season during which he established career-highs in games (72), goals (20), assists (16) and points (36).
Walleye Head Coach Nick Vitucci said, “He’s a great two-way forward who possesses a great skating stride. Ryan has been in the ECHL for the past two seasons and is coming off of a 20 goal season. I look for Ryan to be a great leader both on and off the ice.”
Smith has been invited to the Rockford IceHogs training camp in the American Hockey League.
Notes: Played for the Hawkesbury Jr. A’s of the Central Junior Hockey League…Played four seasons with Colgate in the ECAC…holds Colgate record for career games played (154)…Finished 2nd on the team with 20 goals for the 2008-09 Dayton Bombers.
Brock Wilson (D)
Birthdate: October 15, 1984 in St. Louis, MO
Brock Wilson has played in 132 professional games, 63 of which have been in the ECHL. Wilson played for the Stockton Thunder (ECHL), Flint Generals (IHL), and Albany River Rats (AHL) in 2007-2008, his first professional season. During the 2008-2009 season, the 24-year-old split time in the ECHL between the Augusta Lynx and Dayton Bombers, where he established a career-high five goals.
“Brock is warrior type defenseman who will take care of things in his own zone and help contribute on the offensive side of the puck,” said Vitucci. “I consider Brock a ‘throw back’ type defenseman who plays with a chip on his shoulder.”
Wilson has been invited to the Rockford IceHogs training camp in the American Hockey League.
The Lucas County Arena will be holding a FREE open house on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th from 12-4 each day. The Walleye will skate for the first time at the arena for practice from 1-4 pm on Sunday, October 4.
