Icehawks Offense Explodes for 4 PPG; Walleye Lose 5-2 to Port Huron

10/11/2009 - In their fourth game in as many nights, the Walleye lost 5-2 to the Port Huron Icehawks (IHL). It was final of the Walleye’s preseason contests; the inaugural regular season game is Friday at the new Lucas County Arena (7 p.m.)

The Port Huron power-play unit converted on four of seven chances, including a hat trick by Mike Kinnie. Toledo failed to score on any of their seven power play chances. In total, the Icehawks outshot the Walleye 28-21.

Ryan Smyth’s goal made it 4-1 with less than a minute to go in the second period, but the Icehawks’ power play was just too much to handle. Another power play goal extended the lead before Evan Rankin scored his first goal of the preseason for the 5-2 final score.

Toledo finishes the preseason with a 1-3 record. The Walleye open their regular season schedule with home weekend games versus the Florida Everblades on October 16-18. Tickets for the weekend series are still available.
