Toledo Wins Big In Cincy, Beat Cyclones 5-2; Walleye Move To Second Place!

12/15/2009 - (Cincinnati, OH)– The Toledo Walleye scored on their first two shots and never looked back, defeating Cincinnati 5-2. Toledo’s record is 13-10-1-3 on the season and they pass the Cyclones in the ECHL North Division standings. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Walleye.

The Cincinnati Cyclones would grab the lead at 6:03 of the first when Barret Ehgoetz would beat Alec Richards with a wrist shot. However, after that moment, it was all Toledo on the scoreboard.

Scooter Smith would collect his first Walleye goal as he struck on the power play at 7:35 (Sebastien Piche, Richards). Toledo would take the lead when Piche followed the play to the front of the net to tap in a rebound for a 2-1 lead on his second goal of the year at 8:55 (Bryan Ewing, Dominic Osman). Toledo would make it 3-1 late in the first when Chris Robertson took a pass from Dominic Osman and beat Robert Mayer for his sixth goal of the season at 16:02.

The second period featured just a couple of Alec Richards saves as the Cyclones out-shot Toledo 12-6. Toledo would lead 3-1 heading to the third period.

Cincinnati would close to within one early in the third with a goal at 2:52 from Hans Benson. Toledo would counter with Scooter Smith scoring his second goal of the game at 4:35 (Evan Rankin). Toledo would cap it with an empty net goal from Chris Robertson unassisted at 19:23. Alec Richards finished with 37 saves and is 7-3-0-3 on the season. Bryan Ewing has a five game point streak (1g, 6a).

The second place Walleye will play one more on the road (Friday at Johnstown) before returning home on December 19. Tickets are still available.
