
Walleye Fall Short of Ninth Straight Win; Lose 3-2 to the Nailers in Wheeling
12/31/2009 - (Wheeling, WV) – The Toledo Walleye had their eight game winning streak snapped on Thursday night, 3-2 in Wheeling. Toledo’s record is 17-11-1-3 on the season, and they are 5-4-1-2 on the road.
The game went scoreless throughout most of the first period until Wheeling’s TJ Fox took a pass from behind the Walleye net and his one-timer eluded Jordan Pearce to give the Nailers a 1-0 lead after the first.
Toledo would tie the game when Bryan Ewing forced a turnover in the Wheeling zone and found Malcolm MacMillan in front of the net. MacMillan’s one-timer at 10:58 made it 1-1 on his fourth goal of the year. Toledo would collect the lead at 15:07 when Ewing scored his fifth goal of the year on the power play. Wheeling would score (Chris Capraro) at 16:21 to force a 2-2 tie after the second.
Chris Capraro’s second goal of the game at 10:28 was the only score of the third. Pearce made 30 saves and suffered his first loss in his last six starts.
Walleye Notes: Bryan Ewing has six points (3g, 3a) in his last two games. Toledo finished the month of December 10-4-0-0. The Walleye still own the ECHL's best streak, winning eight of its last nine.
