(Kalamazoo, MI)– The Toledo Walleye collected a 2-0 lead early in the second but could not finish the weekend with a win as they lose 6-3 in Kalamazoo. Toledo’s record is 23-16-1-3 on the season, and they are 7-6-1-2 on the road.

It didn’t take long for Toledo to grab the lead as Maxime Tanguay took a pass from fellow All-Star JC Sawyer and slid it past Jeremy Duchesne for his 14th goal of the year (Adam Hobson also assisting).

On the powerplay, Mike Hedden tipped a Sawyer shot past Duchesne at 4:41 of the second to give Toledo a 2-0 lead. However, following that goal, Kalamazoo would take control as they scored four unanswered goals.

At 5:12 Dean Strong tapped a loose puck past Alec Richards to trim Toledo’s lead to one. At 8:04 Darryl Bootland would beat Richards on a shorthanded breakaway. Kalamazoo would take the lead at 14:28 as Jon Landry sent a slap shot past Richards. Alec was beaten a fourth time in the period as the Wings got a power play goal from Strong for 4-2 Kalamazoo lead after two.

Maxime Tanguay would collect his second goal of the game at 9:18 of the third as he gathered a rebounded from Derek Nesbitt’s shot and blew it past Duchesne for his second goal of the game and his 15th of the season. Kalamazoo would score at 10:38 of the third from Brian McGuirk as he slid in front of Richards. Bootland would collect his second goal of the game as he ended the scoring with an empty net goal, giving the Wings its three goal cushion.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Alec Richards made 25 saves and is 12-5-0-3 on the season. This is the third time this season that the Walleye have lost three games in a row. Maxime Tanguay has scored eight of his fifteen goals this season against the Wings.

Toledo will be back on the home ice February 12th against the Cincinnati Cyclones in a pivotal inter-divisional battle. Tickets are still available.
