
Charlotte Checks The Walleye For Third Straight Loss...5-1 Final On Sunday

(Charlotte, NC) – Toledo Walleye Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 45 saves, but Charlotte defeated Toledo 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Charlotte out-shot Toledo 50-27 for the game. Toledo’s record is 25-19-1-3 on the season, and they are 9-9-1-2 on the road.
The first twenty minutes was owned by the Charlotte Checkers as they out-shot Toledo 17-5 and out-scored the Walleye 2-0. The first goal for Charlotte came at 11:42 on the power play as Julien Brouillette finished a Checker power play with a wrist shot past Jordan Pearce. The second came 18:27 after Pearce stopped a two on none the rebound went to Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll whose one-timer beat Pearce.
“Charlotte came out flying today, and we couldn’t match their intensity,” Head Coach Nick Vitucci said following the game. “Jordan Pearce kept us in the game, but we couldn’t muster any offense today.”
Charlotte would open up a 4-0 lead in the second period. The Checkers got an even strength goal from Matt Schepke at 3:04 as he deposited a rebound past Pearce. The Checkers fourth goal came at 7:13 when Julien Brouillette collected his second goal of the game on a one-timer from the blue line.
The Walleye would finally light the lamp at 9:14 when Chris Robertson tapped in a rebound for his 12th goal of the season. JC Sawyer fed a pass to Derek Nesbitt at the top of the right circle, and Nesbitt’s shot deflected to Robertson for the power play goal.
Charlotte would collect the lone goal in the third period as Matt Schepke scored his second goal of the game and the third Charlotte power play goal at 17:41 of the third. The Checkers finished the game three for seven on the power play.
Walleye Notes:
Toledo received Adam Hobson and Joe Charlebois back from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League on Sunday.
Toledo is 4-7-1-2 against teams from the South Division this season. The Walleye have lost three consecutive games for the third time this season. The Walleye allowed 8 power play goals in three weekend games.
