For a second straight game in Trenton, the Walleye found themselves short-handed in the first period. “We fought hard tonight,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “The first period was extremely difficult being short-handed as much as we were, but our penalty kill did the job. We deserved a better fate tonight.”
In the second period, Toledo would get the lone goal at 2:48 of the second when Joe Charlebois blasted a slap shot past Caruso from the top of the circles for his fifth goal this year. Danis-Pepin and Akim Aliu assisted on the five on three power goal for Toledo. Toledo’s penalty kill did it again in the second as they stopped three more power plays for Trenton including a one minute five-on-three, the third five-on-three of the game for the Devils.
Trenton would tie the game in the third period at 9:37 as they finally solved the Walleye penalty kill when Dan Charleston deflected a blue line shot past Pearce. In overtime, Trevor Kell collected a rebound off a point shot and slid it under Pearce to give Trenton the Win.
