For a second straight game in Trenton, the Walleye found themselves short-handed in the first period. The Walleye stopped not one, but two Trenton five-on-three power play opportunities and denied all four Devils power plays in the first. Trenton would score first at 14:43 when Trevor Kell tapped a rebound past Walleye goaltender Jordan Pearce. Toledo would tie the game at 15:20 when Simon Danis-Pepin made a perfect backhand pass to the front of the net for Mike Hedden who deflected it past Dave Caruso for his 16th goal of the year.

“We fought hard tonight,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “The first period was extremely difficult being short-handed as much as we were, but our penalty kill did the job. We deserved a better fate tonight.”

In the second period, Toledo would get the lone goal at 2:48 of the second when Joe Charlebois blasted a slap shot past Caruso from the top of the circles for his fifth goal this year. Danis-Pepin and Akim Aliu assisted on the five on three power goal for Toledo. Toledo’s penalty kill did it again in the second as they stopped three more power plays for Trenton including a one minute five-on-three, the third five-on-three of the game for the Devils.

Trenton would tie the game in the third period at 9:37 as they finally solved the Walleye penalty kill when Dan Charleston deflected a blue line shot past Pearce. In overtime, Trevor Kell collected a rebound off a point shot and slid it under Pearce to give Trenton the Win.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 30 saves and saw his record go to 12-13-2-0. Toledo is 9-2 in overtime games this season, and tonight was the first loss for the Walleye in the extra session since November 14th at Florida.
