Walleye Snap Slide, Defeat Bakersfield 4-3; Return Home Tomorrow to Face the Condors!
12/3/2010 - (Toledo, OH)-The Toledo Walleye snapped their three game slide tonight with a win over the Bakersfield Condors, 4-3 at the Huntington Center. Toledo’s record is now 7-11-1-1 on the season.
The Fish came out of the locker room ready to go and took control of the game early. Kyle Page took a drop pass from Willie Coetzee and fired a shot past Bakersfield goaltender Josh Tordjman at the 4:34 mark of the first period. The remainder of the period was all Walleye as they recorded 13 shots on goal. Thirteen minutes after their first goal, the Walleye lit the goal lamp again on a breakaway deke from Peter Leblanc making the score 2-0 Walleye. Adam Keefe and Brian Lashoff recorded assists on the play.
The second period went scoreless until the 14:57 mark. Jean-Francois David would cut Toledo’s lead in half when he put a shot past Jordan Pearce, who was being screened. The Walleye outshot Bakersfield 11-6 and went 0 for 4 on the power play.
Five minutes and forty-three seconds into the third period, Coetzee would register another goal for the Walleye on the power play. Coetzee shot a rebound that came out in front of the Bakersfield net to put the Walleye up 3-1. A minute later, Bakersfield would pull within one goal when Adam Naglich received a pass from Vyacheslav Trukhno and shot the puck past Pearce. Toledo would make the score 4-2 after Andy Bohmbach took a pass from Zack Torquato and put the puck past Tordjman. Leblanc received the second assist on the play. With the goalie pulled, Naglich would round out the scoring, earning his second goal of the game to make the score 4-3 in favor of Toledo.
Walleye Wrap-Up:
-Goalteder Jordan Pearce made his return from Grand Rapids and evened out his record to 2-2 on the season. Pearce stopped 19 of 22 shots in tonight’s contest.
-Forward Peter Leblanc registered three points tonight; 1 goal and 2 assists
-Scott Campbell was released from the team today. In 10 games, Campbell had a record of 3-4-1-1 earning one shutout. Campbell had a save percentage of .907 and a goals against average of 2.27.
