Toledo Drops a Heartbreaker in Wheeling; Walleye Return Home Friday Night



3/16/2011 - (Wheeling, WV)–Wheeling goaltender Peter Delmas stopped 36 of 37 Walleye shots as Wheeling beat Toledo 3-1. Toledo is 29-29-5 on the season and 15-14-3 on the road. Toledo is now 3-3-0 against Wheeling this season, with two more meetings this year.

The Nailers would score first at 2:33 of the opening period when Doug Rogers beat Thomas McCollum with a wrist shot. Toledo was out shot by Wheeling 14-12 in the first.

“What a great hockey game tonight,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “Tonight was two desperate hockey teams battling for 60 minutes and I thought we dominated for much of it. Delmas was terrific and that was the difference.”

The Nailers would extend their lead to 2-0 at 4:49 of the second when Tyler Murovich tapped in a rebound. Toledo continued to dominate the play, but Wheeling led 2-0 after two periods.

The Nailers would get a quick goal just 2:03 into the third period to put the Nailers up 3-0. Toledo would score at 16:14 of the period when Sebastien Piche scored his tenth goal of the year from Tyler Doig and Jason Lepine. The Walleye outshot Wheeling 17-2 in the third period.

Walleye Notes:
-Walleye goaltender Thomas McCollum made 21 saves and is 8-7-1 on the season.
-Toledo out shot Wheeling 37-24 for the game.
