Sold-Out Crowd Watches Toledo Fall in Overtime; Walleye Home Sunday Afternoon

3/19/2011 - (Toledo, OH)-The Toledo Walleye fell to the Trenton Devils 5-4 in overtime in front of a sell out crowd at the Huntington Center on Saturday night. The Walleye are now 29-30-4-2 overall this season with a 14-16-2-1 record at home.

Toledo opened the scoring at 10:56 of the first period after Jason Lepine shot a rocket past Trenton goaltender Jeff Lerg that snuck through his pads. Mike Hedden and Ryan Stokes picked up the assists on Lepine’s 7th goal of the season.

Matt Germain would get a puck past Walleye goaltender Thomas McCollum at 16:14 to tie the game up at 1-1.

Toledo out shot the Devils 16-6 in the first period and each team picked up 13 minutes in penalties.

The Walleye regained their one goal lead at 3:08 of the middle period when Mike Hedden picked up an Andy Bohmbach rebound and tapped the puck past Lerg.

The Devils tied the game up at 2-2 after Martin Nolet picked up a back door pass from Ryan Ginand and guided the puck past McCollum.

Lepine answered right back for the Walleye after taking a pass from Tyler Doig and putting the puck in the Trenton goal.

Trenton tied the game up for the third time tonight when Mike Potacco scored at 10:02. The Devils took their first lead of the game at 15:45 of the middle period from Matt Lombardi on the power play.

The Fish out shot the Devils 19-14 for a two period total of 35-20.

Evan Rankin brought the sell-out crowd to life after he scored a game tying goal at 16:12 of the third period. Hedden and Dave Phillips picked up the assists on Toledo’s fourth goal of the game.

Trenton’s Lombardi would deflect a puck past McCollum in overtime to give the Devils a 5-4 win.
