K-Zoo Downs The Walleye 7-1



12/31/2011 - (Kalamazoo, MI) – Defenseman Joey Ryan scored Toledo’s lone goal as Kalamazoo defeated Toledo 7-1 tonight. Toledo is 13-15-0-1 on the season and 5-8-0-0 away from home.

Toledo was out-shot 10-1 in the first five minutes but goaltender Dustin Carlson kept Kalamazoo off the scoreboard. The Wings would finally beat Carlson at 13:56 of the first when Sam Ftorek scored a power play goal.

“Dustin gave us a chance with his play in the first five minutes,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “Unfortunatly we could not capitalize on that momentum and they got their offense going.”

Three second period goals would push Kalamazoo’s lead to 4-0 after two periods of play. Darren Archibald would collect two of those for the Wings. Trent Daavettilla would add the other for Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo would score three more goals in the third period to push the lead to 7-0. The lone goal from the Walleye came at 15:12 of the third period when defenseman Joey Ryan beat Kalamazoo goaltender Riley Gill for his first goal of the season.

Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Dustin Carlson finished with 35 saves in his first start with Toledo and is 2-2-0-0 on the season. Kalamazoo out shot Toledo 42-36 for the game.
