Walleye fall short against the Titans, 5-2




1/6/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-Kyle Rogers and Harrison Reed picked up the Toledo goals as the Walleye dropped a 5-2 decision to the Trenton Titans at the Huntington Center on Friday night. The Walleye are now 13-16-0-1 overall this season and 8-8-0-1 on home ice.

Toledo put some pressure on Trenton net minder Dave Caruso early in the first period, but Caruso was up to the task keeping the Walleye off the scoreboard.

Trenton would take a 1-0 lead at 7:32 of the first period when Chase Langeraap put a rebound behind Walleye goaltender Rob Nolan. The puck came right to Langeraap after Nolan made the initial stop on Rob Bordson.

Ryan Hayes extended Trenton’s lead to 2-0 on the power play, shooting a puck past Nolan at 13:58 of the opening period. The Titans won a faceoff and got the puck to Hayes who was standing at the back door for the goal.

Toledo sent 14 shots at Caruso during first period.

Langeraap would pick up a shorthanded goal at 7:44 of the second period, taking a feed from Adam Presizniuk and shooting it behind Nolan. Langeraap’s second goal of the game extended Trenton’s lead to 3-0.

The Walleye would get on the board at 18:01 of the middle period with Kyle Rogers knocking a loose puck in to the Trenton goal. Matt Krug and Paul Zanette picked up the assists on the Toledo power play goal.

Harrison Reed pulled the Walleye within one goal after he rifled a slap shot behind Caruso just :53 in to the third period. Brian Matte collected the lone assist on Reed’s fourth goal of the year.

At 17:24 of the final period, Trenton would regain a two goal lead after Myles Stoesz put the puck behind Nolan.

Toledo was given a penalty shot at 18:09 of the third. Reed took the puck in on Caruso, but had it poke checked away from his stick.

Trenton’s Matt Germain made the score 5-2 in favor of the Titans shooting the puck in to an empty net at 18:46 of the third period.

-Forward Paul Zanette was activated from the injured reserve list today. In six games with the Walleye this season, Zanette had two points (2g-0a) before tonight's game.
