Walleye snap slide; Shut out the Nailers 3-0!
1/13/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-The Toledo Walleye snapped a six game winless streak, shutting out the Wheeling Nailers 3-0 at the Huntington Center on Friday night. The Walleye are now 14-18-1-1 on the season and are 9-10-0-1 on home ice.
Walleye forward Joey Martin picked up his 10th goal of the season, taking a great pass from forward Kyle Rogers and putting the puck behind Wheeling goaltender Patrick Killeen. Defenseman Gleason Fournier also picked up an assist on the Toledo goal that came at 12:04 of the first period on the power play.
The Walleye sent 13 shots on net during the first period, and Toledo goaltender Rob Nolan stopped all six shots he faced.
Toledo would take a 2-0 at 15:17 of the second period after forward Kyle Rogers fired a shot past Killeen. Forward Andrej Nestrasil and defenseman Phil Rauch collected the assists on the goal.
The Walleye took a 3-0 lead at 18:48 of the middle period. Rauch took a slap shot from the point that came right out to Martin in front of the net. Martin then put the puck in to the open net to pick up his second goal of the night. Defenseman Matt Krug earned the second assist on the goal.
Toledo sent 12 shots on the Wheeling goal for a two period total of 25. Nolan stopped all 10 sent his way.
Both teams were held scoreless in the third period and Toledo held on to pick up a 3-0 victory.
Walleye Wrap-Up:
-Walleye goaltender Rob Nolan stopped 19 shots, picking up his first shut out of the season. Nolan is 7-11-2-0 overall.
-Forward Joey Martin extended his goal scoring streak to three games.
-Forwards Joey Martin (11g, 11a) and Kyle Rogers (9g, 13a) each lead the team in points with 22.
-Toledo out shot the Nailers 33-19 over the course of the game.
