Walleye come from behind to beat Reading, 5-4!
1/21/2012 - (Reading, PA)– Toledo scored three unanswered goals in the last seven minutes to beat Reading 5-4 tonight. Toledo is 16-19-1-2 on the season and 7-9-1-0 away from home.
Toledo would find themselves behind just :52 into the game when Tyler Brenner beat Walleye goaltender Rob Nolan with a wrist shot between the pads. Toledo would tie the game at a goal apiece when Aaron Lewicki would blast in a rebound at 12:36 of the first for his seventh goal of the year. The Walleye killed off three Reading power plays in the first, including a full two minutes of a five on three advantage.
“We knew they would come out fired up at the start of tonight’s game,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “Nolan made a couple of big saves for us to get us through that first period. We just needed to find a way to get some scoring going and we did that in the third.”
In the second, the Royals would regain the lead at 2-1 when Yannick Tifu beat Nolan with a wrist shot from the right circle at 10:44 of the period. Toledo would tie the game at 2 when Bryan Rufenach would tip a pass from Kyle Rogers at 5:37 of the third for his 10th goal of the season.
The Royals would score twice in :14 to take a 4-2 lead midway through the third period. Toledo would close the gap to 4-3 when Lewicki scored his second goal at 14:19 of the period. The Walleye would tie the game at four with 1:14 left when Rogers beat Paul Dainton with his 11th goal of the year. Harrison Reed would score his 6th goal of the season just :10 later to give the Walleye their first lead of the night and net the game-winner.
Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Rob Nolan finished with 32 saves and is 8-11-2-0 on the season. Toledo is 3-3-1-0 against teams from the Atlantic Division this year. Forward Riley Emmerson appeared in his first game with Toledo since being acquired on Thursday. Forward Aaron Lewicki’s goal in the first was the first for him since December 18th at Trenton.
