
Toledo skates past the Wings; win 5-4!
2/3/2012 - (Kalamazoo, MI)–Paul Zanette led Toledo with a four point night as the Walleye win 5-4 in Kalamazoo. Toledo is 18-22-2-2 on the season and 8-11-2-0 away from home.
Toledo would collect the early lead as Todd Griffith scored a shorthanded goal at 2:20 of the first period, his 7th goal of the season. Paul Zanette would collect the lone assist. The Wings would rebound with a couple of even strength goals to take the lead 2-1. Toledo would tie the game when the newest member of the Walleye Mike Thomas scored a power play goal at 16:23 of the period. Joey Ryan and Griffith assisted on the first goal of the season from Thomas.
“This can be such a difficult place to play,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “We needed to control the tempo of this game and not let them get started offensively. When they did we did a great job answering.”
The Wings would go in front 3-2 with a power play goal just :46 into the second period. Toledo would tie the game at three at 11:41 of the second when David Gilbert collected his 3rd goal of the year. Kyle Page and Zanette assisted on the rebound goal from Gilbert.
Toledo would go in front 4-3 at 3:47 of the third period when Gilbert would collect his second goal of the game. Zanette and Nick Oslund would get the assists on the 4th goal of the season from Gilbert. Zanette would net the eventual game winning goal as he would collect his 4th goal of the season at 11:03 of the third period. Kalamazoo would close the gap to one at 14:25, but could not solve Carlson the rest of the way.
Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Dustin Carlson finished with 33 saves and is 4-6-0-1 on the season. Toledo is 3-2-0-2 in games against Kalamazoo this season.
