Walleye downed by the Wings on Sunday



3/18/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-Paul Cianfrini netted his first goal of the season, as the Toledo Walleye fell to the Kalamazoo Wings 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Huntington Center. The Walleye are now 28-32-2-4 overall and 14-15-0-3 on home ice.

The first period saw a lot of back and forth action between the Walleye and the Wings. Walleye forward Kyle Rogers hit a post with 12:38 to go in the period, and Toledo goaltender Alec Richards made several key saves to keep Kalamazoo off the board.

The Wings held the advantage in shots, 18-5.

Kalamazoo broke the tie just :49 in to the second period, after Dustin Cloutier got a puck behind Richards. Trent Daavettila put a power play goal past Richards at 9:08 of the period, extending Kalamazoo’s lead to 2-0.

Eric Kattelus put the Wings on top, 3-0 after he took a shot from the point that got behind Richards at 14:23 of the middle period. Cloutier netted his second of the game, getting a shot past Richards from the top of the circles, giving the Wings a 4-0 lead.

Kalamazoo out shot the Walleye 16-6 in the second period, for a two period total of 34-11.

At the start of the third period, Dustin Carlson replaced Richards in goal for the Walleye.

Kalamazoo took a 5-0 lead 1:47 in to the third period with Justin Taylor getting a puck behind Carlson from the boards. Nick Sirota would then put the Wings up 6-0 getting a shot past Carlson.

Richards would then take over in net again for Toledo.

Toledo would get on the board at the 4:36 mark of the period, with defenseman Paul Cianfrini scoring his first goal as a member of the Walleye. Forwards Joey Martin and Rogers assisted on Toledo’s goal.

Kalamazoo answered right back, netting a goal just :12 later from Daavettila. Cloutier extended Kalamazoo’s lead to 8-1 getting a goal at the 8:48 mark of the period. Kory Karlander made the score 9-1 in favor of the Wings at 16:31 of the final period.
