
Walleye get a point in Wheeling on Thursday!
11/1/2012 - (Wheeling, WV)–The Walleye erased a two goal deficit in the first period to come away with a point in a 3-2 shootout loss at Wheeling. Toledo is 4-2-0-1 on the season and 2-2-0-1 on the road.
The Walleye spotted Wheeling a 2-0 lead as the Nailers would collect goals from defensemen Cody Wild (2:58) and Peter Merth (6:41). The Walleye would take over after that and collected their first goal at 10:22 when Ben Youds beat Wheeling goaltender Patrick Killeen with a wrist shot from the right circle. Randy Rowe and Byron Froese assisted on the first goal of the season for Youds. Rowe would tie the game at two when he tipped a rebound past Killeen at 16:56 of the first for his second goal of the year. Froese and Glendening collected the assists.
“The games are always end to end in this building,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “They got the jump on us early starting with a lot of energy as they usually do in this building. (Kent) Simpson gave us a chance tonight with his goaltending.”
Neither team would score in the second period. The Nailers would outshoot Toledo 9-2 in the period. Goaltender Kent Simpson stopped Chris Barton on a breakaway late in the second.
The two exchanged great chances in the third period and in overtime but neither team could score. In the shootout, Wheeling goaltender Patrick Killeen denied all five Toledo shooters while Wheeling scored once for the win.
The Walleye Notes: Goaltender Kent Simpson made 25 saves and is 2-1-0-1 on the season. Toledo had a record of 3-5-1 against the Nailers last season. Toledo is 2-1-0-1 against teams from the Atlantic Division this year.
