Walleye comeback cut short against Fort Wayne




11/2/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-The Toledo Walleye’s third period comeback was cut short on Friday night, as they lost to the Fort Wayne Komets 4-3 in front of 5,161 fans at the Huntington Center. The Walleye are now 4-3-0-1 on the season and 2-1-0 on home ice.

Toledo and Fort Wayne would exchange goals with the Komets on a penalty kill. The Walleye’s Luke Glendening directed a shot past Fort Wayne goaltender Charlie Effinger at 5:49 of the opening period. Kyle Rogers picked up the only assist on the play. The Komets would then pick up a goal at 6:24 of the period after Brett Smith got a shot past Walleye goaltender Jordan Pearce.

The Walleye sent eight shots on the Fort Wayne net, while Pearce faced nine shots in the opening period.

The Komets would take a 2-1 lead at 11:45 of the middle period after Brent Henley tipped a shot behind Pearce.

Toledo would send seven shots at Effinger for a two-period total of 15 shots on goal.

Fort Wayne would knock a puck into their own net at 1:42 of the third period giving Toledo a goal to tie the game up at 2-2. Randy Rowe was awarded the goal for his third of the year. Rogers and Glendening were given the assists on the play.

The Komets would then pick up a goal from Jean-Michel Rizk coming at 3:06 of the period and from Thomas Beauregard at the 8:05 mark of the period to take a 4-2 lead.

Willie Coetzee would rifle a shot behind Effinger from the point to pull the Walleye within a goal at 10:30 of the final period. Ben Youds and goaltender Jordan Pearce assisted on the final goal of the night.
