Walleye fall to the IceMen 4-1 on Saturday night




11/3/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-Byron Froese picked up Toledo’s lone goal tonight as the Walleye lost to the Evansville IceMen 4-1 at the Huntington Center on Saturday night. The Walleye now stand at 4-4-0-1 on the season and 2-2-0 at home.

Toledo and Evansville skated to a scoreless first period tie. The Walleye sent nine shots on the IceMen goal and Toledo goaltender Kent Simspon stopped all 11 shots that he faced.

Byron Froese would break the scoreless tie at 3:13 of the second period after he took a beautiful pass from Terry Broadhurst and lifted a shot behind IceMen goaltender Rob Madore. Willie Coetzee picked up the second assist on Toledo’s only goal of the night.

The IceMen then scored to unanswered second period goals to take a 2-1 lead. Nathan Moon’s goal came at the 7:31 mark and Todd Robinson’s tally would come at 14:08 of the second period.

Toledo outshot Evansville in the second period, 15-11, giving them a two-period shot total of 24.

Matt Gens extended the IceMen’s lead to 3-1 after he picked up a goal at 11:11 of the final period. Evansville would add an empty net goal at 18:43 to lift them to a 4-1 win.
