Walleye snap slide with 5-2 win in Wheeling!
11/9/2012 - (Wheeling, WV)–Defenseman Wes O’Neill scored two power play goals tonight to lead the Walleye to a 5-2 win in Wheeling tonight. Toledo is 5-5-0-1 on the season and 3-2-0-1 on the road.
The Walleye would collect games’ first goal at 12:48 of the first period when defenseman Cody Lampl fired a shot from the blue line that deflected past goaltender Patrick Killeen for his first goal of the season. Forwards Travis Novak and Willie Coetzee drew the assists on Lampl’s goal that gave Toledo a 1-0 after the first.
“We worked very hard in this game tonight and we were rewarded,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “The power play generated a ton of chances on Wednesday and those continued tonight. Great game for us all around that we need to carry into tomorrow.”
Both teams would score goals in the second period. After the Nailers evened the score at a goal apiece, Toledo’s Randy Rowe would slide a rebound in at 12:09 of the second period. Andrej Nestrasil and Dale Warkentin assisted on the fourth goal of the year for Rowe. Wheeling would tie the game at just 1:19 later. Toledo’s power play would strike when Wes O’Neill would tip a pass from Coetzee in for his third goal of the season at 17:11 of the period. Max Campbell also assisted on the goal.
The Walleye power play would score again just :52 into the third period when O’Neill scored his second goal of the game on a wrist shot from the left circle. Terry Broadhurst and Ben Youds collected the assists on that goal. Kyle Rogers would cap the scoring with an empty net goal with just :53 left.
The Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 23 saves and is 1-1-0-0 on the season. Pearce has a career mark of 2-2-0-0 in games played at Wheeling. Toledo is 3-1-0-1 against teams from the Atlantic
Division this year. The two power play goals tonight were the most scored by the Walleye in a game this year.
