Walleye drop weekend finale to the Stingrays, 2-1
11/11/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-Luke Glendening scored the lone goal for the Walleye as they fell to the South Carolina Stingrays 2-1 at the Huntington Center on Sunday night. Toledo is now 6-6-0-1 overall this season and stands at 3-4-0 at home.
South Carolina jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead at the 6:23 mark of the first period. Matthew Pistilli jumped on a puck in front of Walleye goaltender Kent Simpson and put a shot into the net.
Toledo was unable to get a shot behind South Carolina goaltender Shawn Hunwick, who saved all 17 shots on goal he faced.
The Stingrays extended their lead to 2-0 at 12:10 of the second period after Dylan Clarke slid a backhander past Simpson.
The Walleye sent 10 shots at Hunwick for a two period total of 27.
Forward Luke Glendening would put home a goal to pull the Walleye within a goal at 6:11 of the third period. Glendening finished off Cody Lampl’s push to the net, getting the rebound past Hunwick. The second assist on the goal went to Wes O’Neill.
Walleye Wrap-Up:
-Toledo goaltender Kent Simpson stopped 21 of 23 shots on goal and is 2-4-0-1 on the season.
-Toledo sent 45 shots on goal, the most they have registered so far this season.
-The Walleye return home on Saturday, 11/17 when they face off against the Wheeling Nailers with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m. Former Detroit Red Wings right winger Joey Kocur will be at the game signing autographs on the main concourse.
