Toledo skates past the Cyclones to win 4-2!
11/21/2012 - (Cincinnati, OH)–Toledo scored four unanswered goals after trailing 1-0 to beat Cincinnati 4-2 tonight. Toledo has an overall record of 9-6-0-1 and is 5-2-0-1 on the road this season. The win moved Toledo past Cincinnati into first place in the North Division.
The Cyclones would get the scoring started at 5:16 of the first period when David MacDonald wristed a shot from the right circle that went off the glove of Jordan Pearce and into the net. Toledo would respond with a terrific wrist shot from Willie Coetzee at 9:57 of the first for his 8th goal of the season. Joey Martin and Max Campbell collected the assists.
The Walleye grabbed their first lead when Luke Glendening sent a shot past Cincinnati goaltender Zoltan Hetenyi at 17:34 of the period. Terry Broadhurst and Pearce drew the assists on the team leading 9th goal of the year for Glendening.
“This was a very fast game tonight,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “Both teams have a ton of speed so the game was end to end throughout. We made the plays needed tonight to get the win and Jordan Pearce continued his strong play.”
Toledo would outscore Cincinnati 2-0 in the second period. The first goal came off of a deflected shot from Ben Youds at 3:31 of the second period. Kyle Rogers collected the lone assist on the second goal of the season from Youds.
Byron Froese would make it 4-1 when he stole the puck at the Cincinnati blue line and beat Hetenyi on the breakaway at 15:41 of the second. The goal was the fifth shorthanded goal of the year by Toledo.
The Cyclones would score a late goal with just 33 seconds left to cap the scoring.
The Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 35 saves and is 4-1-0-0 on the season. Pearce made a season high 17 saves in the first period and has won four straight starts. Toledo is 4-4-0-0 against teams from the North Division this year. The Walleye are unbeaten in regulation in six straight road games (5-0-1).
