Walleye reel in a point; fall 4-3 in a shootout
12/29/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-Terry Broadhurst netted two goals in tonight’s game but were defeated by the Kalamazoo Wings 4-3 in a shootout in front of 7,276 fans at the Huntington Center on Saturday night. Toledo now stands at 17-13-0-2 on the season and 9-6-0-1 at home.
Toledo started the scoring quickly tonight, netting a goal 1:37 into the game. Terry Broadhurst picked up a loose puck as it squeezed in front of the net and shot it past Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin. Broadhurst’s goal was assisted by Adam Hobson and Andrej Nestrasil.
Goaltender Kent Simpson stopped all five shots he faced in the opening period. Toledo sent 11 at the Wings’ Martin.
Kalamazoo tied the game up at 1-1 5:10 into the second period off a goal from Alexandre Mallet.
Broadhurst would then light the lamp again to give Toledo a 2-1 lead at 11:22 of the period, netting his second goal of the night. He collected a rebound out in front of the net a put a shot behind Martin. Hobson and Cody Lampl collected the assists on the go ahead goal on the power play.
Kalamazoo then scored twice in :55; the first goal coming from Kory Karlander at 12:01 and Elgin Reid scoring at 12:56 of the second period.
Toledo sent 13 shots at Martin in the second period while Simpson faced nine.
The Walleye‘s Brent Raedeke scored his first goal of the year, coming at 8:50 of the final period. Raedeke pulled in a loose rebound and slid the puck across the Wings’ goal line to tie the game up at 3-3. Max Campbell and Max Nicastro would get the assists on Toledo’s third goal of the game.
Kalamazoo scored twice in the shootout to pick up a 4-3 win over the Walleye.

-Toledo goaltender Kent Simpson stopped 17 of 20 shots on goal and is 7-7-0-2 this season.
-Forward Andrej Nestrasil picked up an assist in the first period, pushing his point streak to 10 games (2g, 13a).
-The Walleye went 1 for 3 on power play chances during the game.
-Toledo will return home on Saturday, January 5 to host the Orlando Solar Bears.
