Walleye beat Elmira to win fourth straight game!




2/1/2013 - (Toledo, OH)-The Toledo Walleye won their fourth straight game tonight as they defeated the Elmira Jackals 4-1 at the Huntington Center on Friday night. Toledo now has an overall record of 25-17-0-4 and is 12-7-0-3 at home.

Toledo and Elmira would skate to a 0-0 tie through the first period of play.

Walleye goaltender Kent Simpson stopped all eight shots he faced in the opening period. Toledo registered nine shots on goal.

The Walleye would break the scoreless tie 7:00 into the second period off a goal from Wes O’Neill. O’Neill took a pass from Andrej Nestrasil and skated in from the blue line and ripped a shot behind Elmira goaltender Maxime Clermont. Phil Oreskovic also assisted on the goal that gave Toledo a 1-0 lead.

Joey Martin put the Walleye up 2-0 after his shot found the back of the net at 16:38 of the middle period. Byron Froese and Nestrasil collected the assists on the power play goal.

Toledo would strike again just :27 later, with Pat Knowlton tipping Oreskovic’s shot from the point behind Clermont. Kyle Rogers registered an assist on the goal that came at 17:05 of the second period.

Simpson saved the seven shots he faced in the second and Toledo put 11 shots on the Elmira goal.

Elmira would score with 1:29 remaining in the third period to break up Simpson’s shutout.

Martin would put home an empty net goal to give the Walleye a 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals. Nestrasil had the lone assist on the final goal of the night.
