Toledo downed in South Carolina, 3-0
2/9/2013 - (Charleston, SC)–The Toledo Walleye out shot the South Carolina Stingrays 29-23 but lost 3-0 tonight. Toledo has an overall record of 27-18-0-4 and is 14-11-0-1 on the road this season.
The Stingrays would strike for the lone goal in the first period as Matt Beca jumped on a rebound at 17:51 of the first to beat Kent Simpson for a power play goal.
“This is a very difficult place to play,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “Like us, South Carolina is very strong between the pipes and defensively and we saw that tonight. This was the hardest stretch of the year and I am very proud of how hard this team played during it.”
South Carolina would get a break for the second goal as Hunter Bishop threw a pass across the Toledo zone. The puck deflected off of the back leg of Phil Oreskovic and past Simpson at 1:11 of the period to give the Stingrays a 2-0 lead.
The game would go to 3-0 at 7:21 of the third when Phil Mangan tipped a shot past Simpson. Toledo out shot South Carolina 11-4 in the third but could not crack Jeff Jakaitis.
