Walleye hold off the Nailers to claim a 5-3 win!



3/15/2013 - (Wheeling, WV)–Toledo scored three third period goals in a 5-3 win at Wheeling. Toledo has an overall record of 32-23-5-4 and is 16-14-2-1 on the road this season.

It would be Gleason Fournier who put the Walleye in front at 7:02 of the first period when he sent a blistering one-timer past Peter Delmas for his first goal of the season. Forwards Willie Coetzee and Trevor Parkes collected the assists. Wheeling would tie the game at one when Reid McNeill beat Kent Simpson with a slap shot from the blue line at 14:59 of the first.

“We know this weekend is going to be tough one and this game was just the start,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “This felt like a playoff game with both teams in desperate straits looking for points. They played very physical and we matched them throughout. It was a good finish to this game for us.”

The Walleye would regain the lead at 8:09 of the second period when Joey Martin capped a three on two with his 12th goal the season. Travis Novak and Wes O’Neill assisted on the first goal for Joey Martin since February 1st when scored twice against Elmira. The Nailers would respond before the period expired to tie the game after two periods.

Toledo would strike first in the third period on the power play as Trevor Parkes tipped a Nino Musitelli shot past Delmas for his 10th of the season at 4:46 of the third period. Toledo would collect a two goal lead when Cody Lampl wristed in his 6th goal of the season at 9:52 of the third. Aaron Bogosian scored the empty net goal for his first with the Walleye.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Kent Simpson made 35 saves on 38 shots and is 15-12-2-3 on the season. Toledo is 6-0-0-1 against the Wheeling Nailers this season.
