Walleye fall short against the Jackals, 3-1
3/23/2012 - (Toledo, OH)-Kyle Page picked up his second goal of the season as the Walleye were downed by the Elmira Jackals 3-1 at the Huntington Center on Friday night. Toledo now stands at 28-33-2-4 overall this season and is 14-16-0-3 at home.
Elmira’s Jordan Pietrus scored the lone goal of the first period at the 8:54 mark, getting a puck behind Walleye goaltender Alec Richards.
Richards made 10 saves throughout the opening period and Toledo sent five shots at Elmira goaltender Brian Stewart.
The Jackals took a 2-0 lead after Corey Cowick directed a pass from Dustin Gazley in to the Walleye net at 5:36 of the second period. Gazley then extended Elmira’s lead to 3-0 getting a shot past Richards.
Defenseman Kyle Page got the Walleye on the board 14:46 of the middle period, shooting a puck past Stewart. Forwards David Gilbert and Derek Brochu assisted on Page’s second goal of the year.
No goals were scored in the final period, giving Elmira a 3-1 win over the Walleye.
Walleye Wrap-Up:
-Walleye goaltender Alec Richards stopped 16 of 19 shots on goal and is 8-9-0-1 this season.
-The Walleye out shot the Jackals 25-19 during the game.
-Toledo is 7-7-0 all-time against Elmira.
-Whitmer grad and former Michigan tight end Kevin Koger, along with Springfield grad and former University of Toledo wide receiver Eric Page were at tonight’s game signing autographs for the fans.
