Berschbach & Paterson selected to ECHL Second Team

(Toledo, OH) – Two Toledo players in goaltender Jake Paterson and forward Shane Berschbach have each been voted to the 2016-17 All-ECHL Second Team. Both the first and second teams are listed below release.
Berschbach has set multiple Walleye records this year including single season marks for assists with 62 and points with 80. He ranks fifth among all ECHL players this year in points and third in assists. The third year forward from Clawson, Michigan also set another Walleye record when in March he collected a point in 11 straight contests. Twenty six of the 62 assists this season have come on the power play which is the most in Walleye history and ranks second among all ECHL players this year.
“Shane is a playmaker in the truest sense of the word,” said Head Coach Dan Watson. “It is no surprise that he has performed at such a high because that is what he has done for three straight years in Toledo.”
In total over three seasons, Berschbach has skated in 194 Walleye games in which the Walleye all-time leader in assists (153) and he ranks to teammate Evan Rankin (212) in career points (210).
Like Berschbach, Paterson has reached and set Walleye single season records this year. His 32 wins leads the entire ECHL, while his 2.34 goals against average is third best in the league and his .917 save percentage ranks fifth. The 22 year old has picked up 6 shutouts this year, a Toledo ECHL record, which is tied for third most in single ECHL season. In 77 career games for Toledo, Paterson has a record of 51-22-4 with a Walleye best 8 shutouts.

The 32 wins for Paterson equals the most in a single Walleye (Jeff Lerg, 2014-15) while his 47 appearances and 2,799 minutes are new single season highs in Walleye history. The Mississauga, Ontario native had an 11 games unbeaten in regulation streak (10-0-1) that lasted from November 16 through December 30 during this season. During that streak he tied teammate Cal Heeter with 8 straight wins, a Walleye record.
