Simon says... Denis returns to the Walleye

Toledo, OH – Defenseman Simon Denis has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2017-18 season.

The 25-year-old completed an amazing first professional season that saw him set a new Walleye single season record with a plus 40 rating. In 70 appearances for the Walleye, Denis scored 15 goals with 40 assists and 29 penalty minutes. The Burnaby, British Columbia native added in another five points (2G, 3A) in nine playoff contests. He was named ECHL Player of the Week for the week of February 6-12 when he posted seven points (4G, 3A) with a three goal game on February 11 vs. Brampton.

“It was an amazing first pro year for Simon, one that saw he develop into an elite defender,” said Head Coach Dan Watson. “His work effort is tremendous and he is a great locker room guy.”

Denis appeared in 141 games with 15 goals, 45 assists, 38 penalty minutes and a plus 9 rating at Ferris State University and helped the Bulldogs to a WCHA Playoff Championship in 2016 and a win over St. Cloud State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. An assistant captain for Ferris State in each of the past two years, Denis posted a career best seven goals in 2015-16.
