Road Warriors drive away from Walleye 5-2

(Toledo, OH)  Toledo scored two goals in less than a minute but Greenville pulled away late to hand the Walleye a 5-2 loss on Sunday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 16-33-3-1 and is 9-16-0-0 at home.

For the second straight night the Road Warriors would strike first as Lindsay Sparks deflected a blue line shot past Walleye goaltender Mac Carruth at 13:15 of the first period.

“We really let the game get away from us in the second period,” said Head Coach Dan Watson. “I loved how hard we fought to get back but the mistakes of the second period haunted us tonight.”
 

Greenville would collect a pair of goals in the second period from Jordie Johnston and Andrew Rowe to open up a 3-0 lead on the Walleye.
 

Toledo would start the comeback at 8:46 of the third period when Brett Perlini scored his first goal in a Walleye uniform. Just 54 seconds later, Aaron Clark deflected a Joe Gleason shot past Greenville goaltender Jeff Malcolm for his 17th goal this year. Josh Nicholls would answer for the Road Warriors at 12:54. Greenville would cap the scoring when Scott Arnold scored at 18:56 of the period.
 

Walleye Notes:  Goaltender Mac Carruth made 33 saves on 38 shots in net for Toledo. Carruth has a record 8-15-0-0 on the season. Toledo is winless in ten consecutive games (0-9-0-1). Walleye finished season series 1-3-0 vs. Greenville.
