Walleye force OT but Eagles take Game 3

(Loveland, CO) Matt Caito scored a power play goal in the third period to send the game to overtime but Colorado takes game three 4-3 in overtime. The Walleye trail the best of seven series two games to one with the fourth game coming Friday night in Colorado.

The game started with a bang as Colorado struck off of a deflection just 14 seconds into the first period of play. Toledo would also score on their first shot of the game at 11:08 of the period when Kyle Bonis (10th) deflected a shot past Lukas Hafner to tie the game at one.

Tyson Spink sent in his brother Tylor Spink (4th) who flipped a backhanded shot in for a 2-1 lead at 14:36. Alex Belzile scored on a rebound for his league-leading 13th playoff goal at 17:23 for a tie game after the first. Following all of the scoring that the first period bought, neither team would find the back of the net in the second period. Colorado found the back with a blue line wrist shot to take a 3-2 lead at 3:31 of the third.

For a third straight game the Walleye power play found the back of the net when Matt Caito blasted in the tying goal at 12:00 of the third period. In the overtime, Colorado would take the game when Julien Nantel slipped a shot past Lerg just 1:20 into the extra session. Lerg finished with 27 saves on 31 shots while the Walleye were held to a season low in shots with just 12 on goal.
