Borkowski hat trick lifts Walleye over Nailers

The Walleye remain undefeated at home with a 5-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers in front of a sold out Huntington Center.

The Nailers took an early lead on a power play goal at 12:09 of the first.

The Walleye responded with three quick goals in the second period starting with Mike Borkowski tying the game up on a power play at 7:55 of the second. Toledo took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal from Kevin Tansey at 9:23. Toledo extend their lead to 3-1 on another goal from Borkowski at 10:43.

Wheeling would pull within one at the 1:47 mark of the third on the power play. Wheeling tied the game 3-3 at 4:41 of the third period. Toledo regained the lead at 9:19 of the third with a goal by Kyle Bonis. Mike Borkowski completed his hat trick with an empty net goal with nine seconds left to give the Walleye the win.

  • Toledo is in Indy on Tuesday night. They return home Thursday for a 10:35 a.m. puck drop against Fort Wayne.
