Carruth leads Toledo to a 3-0 win!
The Toledo Walleye used a two goal second period to cruise to a 3-0 preaseason win over Kalamazoo on Saturday, in front of a crowd of 4,625 at the Huntington Center.
The two teams went back and forth in the first period of play with neither finding the back of the net. The two teams each had seven shots on goal.
“We liked what we saw tonight all throughout this game,“ said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “There are a few things to fine tune a bit before the regular season starts next week. It was defiantly a great start for Carruth.”
Toledo would get the scoring late in the second period at 15:09 when Jason Lepine cut in from the right circle and beat Joel Martin with a backhand shot. Forward Daniel Koger collected the lone assist. Travis Novak would make it 2-0 Toledo when he wristed a shot over the shoulder of Martin at 19:52 of the second. Trevor Parkes and Alden Hirschfeld picked up the assists.
Max Nicastro would make it 3-0 Toledo at 7:51 of the third period when tipped in a rebound after Travis Novak’s shot was stopped. Trevor Parkes also assisted on the goal that finished the scoring.
Toledo opens the regular season Saturday, October 19 at Fort Wayne with the home opener coming October 26 against Wheeling!
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Mac Carruth made 32 saves on 32 shots in net for Toledo. The Walleye finished the pre-season with a 1-1 record.
