Wings even series with Game 6 win over Walleye

Tyson Spink scored his fourth goal of the series but the Walleye fell by a score of 4-3 in Game 6 of the opening round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Sunday in Kalamazoo. The series-deciding Game 7 is set for Tuesday night at the Huntington Center.

The Walleye started fast in this game thanks to the hundreds of Walleye fans that traveled to the Wings Event Center. The Fish netted a pair of goals just 6:06 in the first period. Landon Oslanski blasted in his second goal of the playoffs at 3:04 followed quickly by the second goal of the postseason from Zach Nastasiuk at 6:06 that sent the Walleye faithful into a frenzy. Nolan Zajac and Alden Hirschfeld both assisted on each of the goals. Kalamazoo came back for a goal at 15:31 off of the stick of Blake Kessel.

Kalamazoo evened the game at 3:58 of the second period when Lane Scheidl spun and beat Jake Paterson with a wrist shot. Brian Hart gave the Wings the lead at 13:41 followed by a late goal from Josh Pitt at 18:18 to put the Walleye behind 4-2 following the second frame. Toledo’s first power play of the game came with six minutes left in the third period and they would capitalize when Tyson Spink (4th) rocketed in a rebound with 4:37 left. Joel Martin stopped 28 of Toledo’s 31 shots on the night for the win. Goaltender Jake Paterson finished with 22 saves on Kalamazoo’s 26 shots.
