Hens player participates in training camp!
Toledo has released its 2013-14 training camp roster. This year’s opening camp roster features a total of 29 players, with 19 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders. Invited from this year’s Free Agent Camp are forwards Nick DeMarchi, Dustin Parks, Nikita Poliakov and Myles McCauley.
For the first time a Mud Hens player will participate in camp. Mike Cervenak. a native of Trenton, MI, hit .291 in 81 games during the 2013 season with the Mud Hens and received an invite from the Walleye to tryout. Cervenak skates and plays hockey during the baseball off-season.
“This is such an exciting time of the year where we get to see all of the hard work of the summer on the ice for the first time,” Head Coach Nick Vitucci said. “We have so many talented players in this year’s camp; it is going to fun to watch and a great way to build up for the start of the year.”
Defenseman Jason Lepine and forwards Aaron Bogosian and Scott Arnold have agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2013-14 season and will participate at camp.
Bogosian returns to Toledo after finishing out the last season with the Walleye. The 26 year old had five points (2g, 3a) in 11 games with Toledo after being acquired from Florida. In 55 games with the Everblades last year, the native of Massena, NY, posted 11 goals, 15 assists and 146 penalty minutes. Bogosian also had three assists in last year’s Kelly Cup Playoffs for the Walleye and has appeared in 64 AHL games in his career between Springfield and Peoria.
Lepine returns to Toledo after spending the last two years in Europe. The 28 year old defenseman skated in 47 games with the Walleye in 2010-11 with eight goals and 26 assists. The native of Cornwall, Ontario had one goal and five assists over 32 games last year.
Arnold, a native of Pointe-Claire, PQ, split his first professional season between Gwinnett in the ECHL and Portland of the AHL. The 24 year old forward scored 8 times with the Gladiators while chipping in 12 assists in 32 games. He also had a pair of assists in 10 games with Portland. Prior to turning professional, Arnold spent two years with Niagara University where he had 26 goals, 40 assists in 67 games.
The Toledo Walleye play host to a preseason hockey game on Saturday, October 12 against the Kalamazoo Wings. General admission tickets to the game are $5, with all proceeds benefitting the Walleye Wishing Well charitable fund.
