Hilbrich scores twice as Walleye pick up point
(Reading, PA) Christian Hilbrich scored twice for the Walleye as Toledo picked up a point in a 4-3 overtime loss Thursday night in Reading. Toledo has a record of 2-1-1-0 and is 1-1-1-0 on the road. The Walleye head to Adirondack for games Friday and Saturday against the Thunder.
Reading controlled most of the play early in the game but Pat Nagle was sharp to keep the game scoreless. Toledo ran most of the second half of the first period and the shots after one period with Reading holding a 10-6 advantage. In the second period, a blue line shot from defenseman Parker Reno was deflected by Christian Hilbrich past Reading goaltender Mark Dekanich for a 1-0 Toledo lead at 1:02.
Following a tying goal from the Royals, Toledo would regain the lead when Hilbrich tapped in a rebound from the blue line shot of Simon Denis for his second goal of the night. Toledo outshot the Royals 15-8 over the second frame. Connor Crisp would collect his first goal of the season with backhanded shot from in front of the Reading net at 4:14 of the third period. Reading was able to even the score with back to back goals from forward Chris McCarthy. In the first overtime game of the year for the Walleye both teams exchanged great chances before the Royals won it with a rebound goal at 4:27.
Fish Tales: Goaltender Pat Nagle started the game for the Walleye and stopped 32 of Reading 36 shots and his record is 2-0-1-0 on the season. Toledo was out shot by Reading 36-28 in the game.
