Strong first period leads to sixth straight win

(Norfolk, VA) Defenseman Nolan Zajac had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 Walleye win Saturday night in Norfolk. Toledo has a season record of 6-1-0-0 and is 5-1-0-0 on the road. Toledo has won six straight games.

Toledo would get the jump on the scoreboard in this game as Dane Walters (2nd) slipped a shot under the pads of Norfolk goaltender Eetu Laurikainen at 5:28 of the first period. Nolan Zajac scored his first professional goal with a wrist shot from the blue line at 8:51 for 2-0 Walleye lead. The final goal of the first came from Tylor Spink (2nd) at 15:30 with a wrist shot from the right circle.

Toledo was shorthanded four times in the second period and held the Admirals scoreless on those chances. Kyle Bonis found Shane Berschbach open at the Norfolk blue line that sent Berschbach in on a breakaway that resulted in his second goal of the season. Norfolk ended the shutout bid of Jake Paterson with a goal with only 2:13 left in the game.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced and has a record of 3-1-0-0 on the season. Tyson Spink picked up an assist on Tylor Spink’s goal in the first as both players extended their point streaks to six straight games.
