Toledo tops Quad City on Opening Night
Pat Nagle’s shutout and a big first period led the Walleye to a 3-0 win over the Mallards on Opening Night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has a record of 2-1-0-0 and is 1-0-0-0 at home.
Kevin Tansey scoped our first home goal of the season just 1:30 in when he snuck one past Kulbakov of Quad City. Zach Nastasiuk was credited with the loan assist. Simon Denis netted his first goal of the season on the power play at 17:45 of the first. Shane Berschbach and Davis Vandane were awarded with their first assists of the young season. With 2 seconds remaining in the first, Christian Hilbrich recorded a shorthanded goal, pushing the Walleye’s lead to 3-0. Quad City went 0 for 3 on the power play in the first frame, only recording 4 shots.
No goals were recorded in the second period, with Toledo outshooting Quad City 15-11. The big first period for the Fish proved to be all Toledo needed, as neither team found the back of the net in the third period.
Fish Tales: Pat Nagle got the start in net for the Fish and is 2-0-0-0 on the season, stopping all 21 shots he faced. Toledo outshot Quad City 40-21 in the contest, and killed off all 5 of their power play chances.
