Walleye frozen by IceMen on Sunday
(Evansville, IN) – Marek Tvrdon scored for Toledo, but the IceMen downed the Walleye 2-1 Sunday evening in Evansville. Toledo has an overall record of 3-3-1-0 and is 1-2-1-0 on the road this season.
At 10:20 of the first period, Marek Tvrdon would tap in a rebound to give Toledo a 1-0 lead. Russ Sinkewich and David Gilbert collected the assists on the second goal of the season from Tvrdon.
“With such a tough turnaround we just asked the guys to play smart, simple hockey,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “We did a good job of withstanding the early rush and making things tough on their offense, but they made the plays in the third period.”
The IceMen outshot Toledo 9-2 in the second period, but could not score on goaltender Mac Carruth. Evansville would tie the game at 1 when Matt Lowry beat Carruth with a wrist shot at 3:21 of the third period. The IceMen would take the lead for good at 10:53 of third period when Daultan Leveille batted in a loose puck at the side of the Walleye net.
- Goaltender Mac Carruth made 27 saves on 29 shots in his third consecutive start for Toledo.
- Carruth has a record of 3-2-0-0 on the season.
