Walleye beat Kalamazoo in preseason
(Kalamazoo, MI) Tyler Barnes scored late in the third period and Pat Nagle stopped 35 shots in Toledo’s 2-1 preseason win at Kalamazoo Saturday night. Toledo opens the 2017-18 regular season Friday, October 13 at Quad City.
Kalamazoo outshot the Walleye 12-7 in the first period with Walleye goaltender Pat Nagle turning aside every one he faced for a scoreless first. At 1:45 of the second period, forward Dan Cesarz found the back of the net on an unassisted goal for the Walleye to give Toledo a 1-0 lead.
The Walleye kept the lead until 11:54 of the second when the KWings beat Nagle for a power play goal. Kalamazoo kept up the pressure on the Walleye with another 17 shots on net in the second frame. Tyler Barnes put the Walleye in front for good when he scored at 16:40 of the third period. Defenseman Brock Beukeboom and forward Alex Foster collected the assists on the game-winning goal. The shots were even at seven in the third period and finished 36-20 with Kalamazoo holding the edge for the contest.
Fish Tales: Goaltender Pat Nagle stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced in the contest. Toledo went 0-2 on the power play while the KWings went 1-4 with the man advantage.
