Walleye blank Wings in preseason opener
(Toledo, OH) Two goals in both the second and third periods led the Walleye to a 4-0 preseason win over Kalamazoo on Friday night at the Huntington Center.
Following a scoreless first period, the Walleye would strike first with a power play goal at 10:46 from Kyle Bonis. Defenseman Nolan Zajac and forward Shane Berschbach picked up the assists on the power play goal. Austin Wuthrich broke through and scored on a partial breakaway at 16:09 of the period for a 2-0 lead.
Evan Rankin scored on a breakaway just 58 seconds into the third period to push the Toledo lead out to 3-0. Toledo’s Andy Huff capped the scoring at 17:27 of the third period.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Drew Fielding started the game and posted 18 saves on 18 shots. Toledo native Andrew Gedert played the final 7:12 in net and finished with four saves.
