Walleye blast off in Fort Wayne for a win

(Fort Wayne, IN) Alex Globke scored twice with an assist to lead the Walleye to runaway win 6-1 Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. Toledo has an overall record of 49-17-2-2 and is 24-10-1-0 on the road.

After Alex Globke was robbed early in the first period by Komets goaltender Pat Nagle, the Komets cashed in with a goal at 3:33 to take a 1-0 lead over the Walleye. Toledo came roaring back at 11:24 when Shane Berschbach set up one-timer from Simon Denis (14th) to tie the game at 1. Denis was at it again with a shot from the blue line at 15:26 for a power play goal and a 2-1 Walleye lead after the first.

Toledo would take a 4-1 lead with a pair of goals early in the second period. The first came off of the stick of Alex Globke (2nd) when he blasted in a rebound at 5:30. Dane Walters (16th) pushed the Walleye lead to 4-1 at 7:49 when he sent a perfect shot past Nagle. The Komets made a goaltending change after that goal. The two teams combined for 51 penalty minutes through two periods.

The power play stuck once again in the third period as Evan Rankin (27th) deflected the shot from Nolan Zajac into the back of the net at the 2:00 mark. Globke completed his big night when sent a perfect wrist shot into the top right corner of the net at 3:57 of the final period.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Cal Heeter stopped 33 of Fort Wayne’s 34 shots and has a season record of 14-1-0-1. Toledo finished the year 5-1-0-0 vs. the Komets. The win ties this year’s team with the 2014-15 Walleye that also won 24 road games. 63 total penalty minutes were issued in the game with Toledo having 22 minutes.
