Walleye shut down Wings again in season tune-up

(Kalamazoo, MI) Goaltender Jake Paterson posted 25 saves in a 1-0 Walleye win Saturday night in Kalamazoo. Toledo opens the 2016-17 season Friday night in Atlanta.

Kalamazoo out shot Toledo 12-9 in a well-played first period with each team picking up some great chances. The same continued through most of the second as the goaltenders, Jake Paterson for the Walleye and Joel Martin for Kalamazoo shut down any offense.

The shots were 19-13 in favor of the Wings heading into the third period. Toledo took the lead for good at 17:44 of the final frame when Alex Globke beat Martin with a wrist shot from the slot.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped all 25 shots he faced to post the shutout. Toledo did not allow a goal over two preseason contests vs. Kalamazoo including a 4-0 win Friday night at the Huntington Center.
