Walleye sign defenseman Obuchowski

Defenseman Ryan Obuchowski has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2017-18 season.

The West Bloomfield, Michigan native just completed his first professional season as a member of the Missouri Mavericks where he posted a pair of goals with 14 assists. Obuchowski also picked up 31 penalty minutes over 69 contests.

“Ryan is a smart, solid defenseman who was successful in his first pro season,” said Head Coach Dan Watson. “He is very good in the defensive zone and moves pucks well to jumpstart an offensive attack.”

Obuchowski attended Yale University from 2012-2016, appearing in 134 games with 16 goals, 36 assists, 60 penalty minutes and plus 42. The 25-year-old was a member of the 2012-13 Bulldogs squad that won the NCAA Championship. That season he was named to the ECAC ALL-Rookie Team. Obuchowski posted a plus 15 in the 2014-15 season which tied him for the team lead. Prior to his college days, the 6’1”, 185 pound defenseman spent two years in the USHL with the Indiana Ice with 54 points (12G, 42A) in 114 games.
