Big Crowd, Big Win: For the ninth consecutive season the Walleye had a standing room only crowd to start the home portion of the schedule with 8,300 Saturday night. Kevin Tansey struck early at 1:31 of the first period while Simon Denis and A.J. Jenks followed with first period goals allowing the Walleye to cruise to a 3-0 win.
Nagle with a Bagel: Pat Nagle, in his first start at the Huntington Center as a member of the Toledo Walleye, stopped all 23 shots he faced from the Quad City Mallards. He is the second Walleye goaltender to collect a shutout in the home opener as Mac Carruth shut down Wheeling 2-0 with 30 saves on October 26, 2013. Nagle is off to a terrific start to the year allowing just three goals in 155 minutes played which is good for a 1.16 GAA and a .951SVP. Home Opening Win: The victory on Saturday improved the Walleye record to 4-5-0 all-time in games to open the home schedule. Toledo has won back to back home openers for the first time since winning two years in a row to start the 2012-13 season and 2013-14 season. Nothing for the Mallards: Saturday was the second time that Quad City has come to Toledo and both games have been 3-0 wins for the Walleye. Toledo defeated the Mallards in shutout fashion on December 3, 2016. Jake Paterson stopped all 20 shots he faced in the win. A Road Week ahead: Toledo has three games coming in three days starting Thursday night in Reading. Toledo has an All-Time ECHL record of 35-29-8 against the Royals. Friday and Saturday Toledo will make its first trip to Glens Falls, NY to take on the Adirondack Thunder for back to back games. The Walleye have only played the Thunder once before, November 7, 2015 which was won 1-0 by Adirondack.
