RECRUITING
It's a fact that Toledo is a GREAT hockey town, with a history of hockey support that goes back over five decades. Since the team first took to the ice in 2009, the Fighting Walleye have attracted over 200,000 fans to the new Huntington Center each season! The Toledo Walleye organization is a dynamic and experienced group, committed to keeping the team and facility a first class operation for both players and fans. Walleye players have access to some of the finest facilities in professional hockey. We offer a warm welcome to new and veteran players and are always looking for talented hockey players to consider becoming a member of the Toledo Walleye team.
TRYOUTS
The serious work starts at the end of summer. Each August, the Toledo Walleye host a week-long free agent tryout camp. Players that are selected will move forward from tryout camp to the main Walleye Training Camp which starts in early October.
RECRUITING LETTER
Dear Future Walleye Hockey Player,
I am truly excited and proud to write this letter. Toledo is a true hockey town, and since the team's inaugural campaign in 2009 the Walleye have attracted over 200,000 fans to the Huntington Center each season!
Our coaching staff is committed to putting the best product on the ice in Toledo, but we are equally committed in working with all players in improving their individual skills to get to the next level. Toledo hockey has always been a great pipeline for players to advance their careers to the American Hockey League. Toledo is also in close proximity to dozens of NCAA, AHL, OHL and NHL teams, making it easy for scouts to travel to and from the area.
The Walleye organization is committed to keeping this hockey team a first class operation for both players and fans. This is truly represented by the amazing arena the Walleye call home: Huntington Center is a $105 million dollar state-of-the-art facility located in downtown Toledo, Ohio. There are 20 private suites and 750 prestigious club seats as well as a club-level lounge, a banquet facility, a team merchandise store and a modern scoreboard. The Walleye benefit from a modern, high-tech locker room. It includes 26 stalls in both the main locker room and the players change room. The main locker room has a 50" television in addition to a full lounge area with sofas and another 50" television. The weight room has all the modern equipment including a treadmill, elliptical machine, stair stepper, 10 spin bikes and two more televisions.
During their stay in Toledo, Walleye players reside in local apartments just a 10-minute drive from Huntington Center. The apartments are fully-furnished and include free Buckeye CableSystem High Definition Cable and Hi-Speed Internet. They are in close proximity to many stores, restaurants, golf courses and parks. Walleye players will also be provided with membership to Wildwood Athletic Club, Toledo's finest health and wellness facility. Wildwood provides members with a complete fitness, sports and social experience.
While away from Toledo, the Walleye travel on a top-of-the-line DC2 Sleeper Coach. It has been completely updated and refurbished with new carpet, cabinetry, blinds, upholstery, complete exterior re-paint, and a complete mechanical inspection. Amenities include: Satellite TV equipped with stereo & DVD player, wireless internet, refrigerator, microwave, 19 individual bunks with TVs, couches and Front Lounge Area and booth-style seating.
Sincerely,
Dan Watson
