Walleye News and Notes

Three games in Salt Lake: Tylor Spink and Tyler Sikura led the charge Wednesday night with each collecting a goal and an assist in Toledo’s 5-3 road win. Goaltender Cal Heeter stopped 28 of 29 shots Friday night as the Walleye picked up a 2-1 victory. Toledo raced out to a 4-0 lead Saturday night in Utah and defeated the Grizzlies for a third straight time 5-2. Watson leads group to best 25 game record: With three more wins this past the Walleye currently have a record for the most wins (21) and points (42) through 25 games of a season in Toledo ECHL history. The 2014-15 Walleye team was 18-4-3 through its first 25 games on the way to a 50 win season. The 1991-92 Toledo Storm team had a record of 19-5-1 at the same point through that season. Road trip dominance: On the longest trip in team history, Toledo made it count with winning five of the six games played on the western swing through Alaska and Utah. For the season, the Walleye have the most road wins of any ECHL team with a mark of 13-3-0. Paterson equals Heeter: Goaltender Jake Paterson started just one game this past week but the win on Saturday night over Utah was his eighth consecutive victory which matches current goaltending partner Cal Heeter for the longest goalie winning streak in Walleye history. Paterson’s streak started with a 6-2 win over Atlanta on November 16. Heeter did not lose a start for the Walleye until December 10 against Alaska. Only once this week: Toledo has just one game this week, Friday night vs. the Kalamazoo Wings at the Huntington Center. Toledo has a record of 3-0-0 against its northern rivals including back to back home wins in mid-November. Celebrate the Glass City: Come celebrate Toledo Friday on “Holy Toledo Night” as the Walleye wear special “Glass City” jerseys that will be raffled off on the main concourse during the game. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Walleye Wishing Well.

Walleye Player of the Week: Scott Czarnowczan (2 goals – 2 assists = 4 points)

Walleye Goaltender of the Week: Cal Heeter (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .918 save %)
