Walleye News and Notes

Rebound weekend for the Walleye: Toledo suffered its worst defeat of the year on Friday night in Wheeling as the Walleye were held scoreless for the first time this year in a 6-0 loss. Saturday night, Toledo had its third shutout of the year from Jake Paterson with 21 saves to shut down Brampton 4-0. Coming back was also in effect on Sunday as three times in the game the Walleye trailed Fort Wayne by a goal before Nolan Zajac scored in overtime to pick a 4-3 victory. Always right back after a loss: Toledo has been defeated six times in regulation and once in a shootout the year but they have yet to fall in consecutive games as the Walleye have won the next contest after a loss. Pack that barn: Saturday’s standing room only crowd of 8,300 was the ninth sellout of the season for the Walleye. The single season record for sellouts was set last year when the Huntington Center was full for 18 contests. The Walleye are second in the league averaging 7,166 per contest. Overtime kings: Sunday’s 4-3 overtime win was the fifth time this year that the Walleye have won a game that has gone into overtime. That ties them with Utah (5-2) and South Carolina (5-1) with the most overtime wins this year. Toledo is a perfect 5-0 in games that have been decided in the three on three extra session. Bring out the hats: For the second time this season, the fans sent hats to the Huntington Center ice for Tyson Spink. Saturday night the Walleye forward scored the first three goals in a 4-0 win over Brampton. He also had a four goal game during the home opener on October 22 against the very same Brampton Beast. Tyson is Toledo’s team leader in goals this year with 15. Four games against two teams ahead: Busy week for the Walleye as they play Wheeling and Brampton both for a pair of games this week. Toledo is 2-2-0 against the Nailers so far this year. The Saturday night win boosted Toledo’s season record to 3-1-0 in four contests vs. Brampton so far this year. Friday the 13th: The lone home event for the Walleye is on Friday, January 13 vs. Wheeling. The first 1,500 fans will receive a replica goalie mask!

Walleye Player of the Week: Tyson Spink (3 goals – 1 assist = 4 points)

Walleye Goaltender of the Week: Jake Paterson (2-1-0, 3.22 GAA, .868 save %)
